Picture the distant year 1987 as the new comedy/theatre mash-up concept of TheatreSports™ was being introduced to comedy-starved Ōtautahi Christchurch, sparking the beginning of Scared Scriptless in December 1990. Over 35 years later, Scared Scriptless performed by The Court Jesters is proud to be Australasia’s longest running comedy show.
The Court Jesters now also offer topical long-form improv shows and entertain audiences of all ages. In addition to their regular shows, the troupe also provides corporate entertainment, weekly improv workshops, and an annual Theatresports™ competition for high schools (staying true to our roots).
Dedicated to ongoing improvement, the company has trained a multitude of performers and comedians including notable Alumni like Patrick Duffy, Cal Wilson, and Eli Matthewson.
The Court Jesters Today
The Court Jesters are more than comedians—they’re a dynamic company of actors, writers, educators, and theatre-makers (plus the occasional auctioneer). Fast, funny, and just a little bit cheeky, they deliver high-calibre comedy that keeps audiences laughing and guessing. A team of professionals proud to get away with the impossible.
