Biography

James is a performer who recently returned to the freelance world after a period of corporate employment. He is a proud 2013 graduate of the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (NASDA).

James’s most cherished theatre experience was playing Javert in Les Misérables for Showbiz Christchurch, a true dream role made all the more special by performing with a cast “littered” with his closest friends.

Recent stage work includes Mummy’s Boy with Turn Round Theatre Otautahi and Listen to My Heart with Emerald Theatre Company. James considers his performance as Pinky in Flagons and Foxtrots at the Fortune Theatre in Dunedin a lucky opportunity, having worked there before the theatre closed its doors.

His extensive performance credits around New Zealand include work at The Court Theatre in RENT and as Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar; Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera and John in Miss Saigon, and alsoWickedThe Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and My Fair Lady (unstaged) (Showbiz Christchurch); The Secret Garden (Enchanting Productions); and Dusty (Musical Theatre Dunedin). He also co-created and performed in the two-man show, Bromance.

James is an enthusiastic director. His directorial experience includes the inaugural productions for Moonlight Theatre (of which he created and leads), The Moonlight Cabaret and Fugitive Songs, as well as productions like Annie and Echo. When not in the theatre, he works as a high school relief teacher.
