Mischievous and affecting, Hansol Jung’s Wolf Play deftly explores the intricacies of the families we choose and un-choose, and how far we would all go to defend our pack.

Inspired by a true story, an American father, Peter, “un-adopts” a boy over the internet, fulfilling Robin’s dream of becoming a mum. It’s a decision Peter regrets when he discovers Robin and her partner Ash are not what he expected, and that the boy he was quick to usher out of his life will be growing up without a ‘dad.’

Wolf Play is a highly theatrical, imaginative piece about the primal need for kinship. It tells a messy, funny, and disturbing story of survival, family, and belonging, focusing on a lone wolf desperately seeking his pack.

It poses the question: “What is a family?

“There’s an unruly quality to Jung’s idea of what theater can be, jagged and untethered, coy and dreamlike. It’s thrilling to see that potential unleashed on the vagaries of love.” – The New York Times

“Thrilling… portrays a traumatic situation, but with an antic disposition and a goofy heart… there’s a lightness here that chases away the shadows.” – The New York Times

“Mischievous… grips you with both its facts and its fictions. Jung’s play is based on grim real-life experiences; The fantastical touch of the puppet and the Wolf… lightens the experience with humor… pulling you in emotionally so the punches land when your guard is down.” – Vulture
